Locality: Balochistan, Pakistan
Size: 58 mm x 44 mm x 18 mm (2.3 in. x 1.7 in. x 0.7 in.)
Weight: 60 g (2.1 oz)
Nice small cabinet specimen of clear faden quartz with crystals to 32 mm. There a couple of very small inconspicuous nicks on the top two crystals. There is a contact area on the back near the bottom, where it was removed from the host material.
The term “faden quartz” refers to usually tabular quartz with a white growth “thread” running through the center. Faden quartz forms within gradually widening fissures in the host rock, where the crystals rupture and heal as the fissure grows wider (see https://www.mindat.org/min-46656.html.)
